Psychological Testing for Children and Teens on Long Island

Get Started

Long Island Psychology Offers WISC-V, SB5, KTEA-3, and BASC-3 Testing for Kids and Young Adults

We care about our children. We want them to have the best, and to grow up getting all the care and support they need. But one challenge that we often face raising children is knowing what is a “normal” development and what requires additional attention and support. Children are all very, very different at young ages, and so we typically need an effective way to identify when a child has additional needs.

Long Island Psychology is able to offer this through psychoeducational and psychological testing. This type of testing provides a measurable basis for understanding our children, thus making it possible for them to get proven support for those situations. If your child may benefit from psychological testing, please contact Long Island Psychology, today.

Types of Psychoeducational and Psychological Testing We Offer

There are several highly regarded tests that can help parents, caregivers, and school administrators more information to help them do what is best for the child. At Long Island Psychology, we are able to utilize several of these tests, including:

  • WISC-V (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition)

The WISC-V is designed for children aged 6 to 16 years. This test measures a child’s intellectual ability and is often used to assess cognitive development and processing skills. It helps in identifying intellectual disabilities, giftedness, and other cognitive strengths and weaknesses.

The WISC-V includes various subtests that assess different aspects of intelligence, such as verbal comprehension, visual-spatial abilities, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. The test is administered individually and usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes.

  • SB5 (Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales, Fifth Edition)

The SB5 is suitable for individuals from age two to adulthood, making it versatile across a wide age range. This test assesses intelligence and cognitive abilities across five factors: fluid reasoning, knowledge, quantitative reasoning, visual-spatial processing, and working memory.

The SB5 uses both verbal and non-verbal content to evaluate the cognitive abilities of the test taker. The format includes routing tests which determine the starting point in each area, followed by more detailed testing based on the individual’s performance.

  • KTEA-3 (Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement, Third Edition)

This test is aimed at individuals aged 4 to 25 years. The KTEA-3 is used to assess academic skills in reading, math, written language, and oral language. It is useful for identifying educational needs, determining specific learning disabilities, planning interventions, and monitoring progress.

The KTEA-3 includes comprehensive tests in various academic domains. It can be administered in a flexible manner, allowing examiners to choose specific subtests that best fit the assessment needs of the individual.

  • BASC-3 (Behavior Assessment System for Children, Third Edition)

The BASC-3 is designed for children and adolescents aged 2 to 21 years. This assessment measures behaviors, emotions, and self-perceptions. It is used to detect potential emotional disorders, behavioral problems, and helps in the development of intervention strategies.

The BASC-3 includes teacher rating scales, parent rating scales, self-report scales, and forms for ages 2-5 years, providing comprehensive insights into the behavior and emotions of the child or adolescent. This multi-method approach allows for a thorough assessment of the individual from various perspectives.

Each of these tests is a tool used by therapists and educators to gain a better understanding of an individual’s cognitive abilities or emotional and behavioral status, thereby aiding in appropriate educational planning, intervention, and support strategies.
