Treatment for Anxiety in NY
Our bodies are amazing. When faced with some type of danger, our blood flows faster, our muscles gain more energy, our reflexes speed up, and we start to sweat – all of these responses make it easier and safer to fight or run.
But many people throughout New York experience these same conditions when there is no danger present. The result is a nervous energy, anxious thoughts, and rapid heartbeat, and other uncomfortable symptoms that make it hard to enjoy the day to day.
This is anxiety – a mental health condition that has become even more common as we all adapt to a stressful world. Anxiety can be a subtle condition that is difficult to notice, or it can be overwhelming and have a clear and debilitating impact on your life.
If you are anywhere in all of NY state and feel that you may have anxiety, our team at Long Island Psychology has both in-person appointments and remote therapy available. Please call us at (516) 732-0273 or fill out our online form and our therapists will respond quickly.
About Our New York Anxiety Therapy Services
NY is a diverse state. The culture, lifestyle, and stressors vary. NYC, Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and of course here on Long Island, we’re all faced with distinctive challenges on a day to day basis that are unique to our personal history, or professions, and the support systems we have available.
Anyone can develop anxiety. But not everyone has the same experiences. That’s why it’s important to work with a psychologist that recognizes what makes people unique, and one that tailors the treatment to you as an individual. Drs. Marc Shulman and Atara Wertentheil take that approach.
We offer both in person and remote/online therapy services to anyone in New York State that finds themselves struggling. We are local to Long Island, with offices in Garden City and Rockville Centre. That makes it possible for clients in places like Freeport, Oceanside, Hempstead, and even Queens to come to our office if they need help.
We are also available via phone or telehealth video for anyone located anywhere in New York State. It’s what allows us to treat those in New York City, Syracuse, and of course any city, town, or community located anywhere in NY. We’re a great option if you’re in an area without access to many psychologists, or if you want to match with someone that will listen, provide guidance, and help you find the help you need.
Types of Anxiety
There is more than one type of anxiety, and more than one way to experience anxiety. Although there are symptoms common among anyone in New York that struggles with it, anxiety is also a very personal condition, where each person may experience different degrees of physical and mental symptoms.
Most diagnosable anxiety falls under one of the following conditions:
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder – GAD is a persistent and ongoing feeling of anxiety (physical, mental, or both) that appears ever-present and touches most activities you do.
- Social Anxiety Disorder – Also known as “social phobia,” those with this type of anxiety experience general fear, shyness, or anxiety attacks in social situations.
- Panic Disorder – Panic attacks are periods of intense, overwhelming anxiety that may mimic more serious health conditions. Those with multiple panic attacks may have panic disorder.
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – After a traumatic event, a person may have anxious responses as a result of experiences related to that event. This is commonly called PTSD.
- Phobias – Phobias are intense fears of a specific object or event, such as a fear of spiders, or a fear of heights. They are typically independent of other forms of anxiety.
Anyone can experience anxiety. As many as 30 to 40% of Americans mention experiencing some form of anxiety every year. It is an unfortunately normal part of so many people’s lives – so normal, that it’s not uncommon to live with it without seeking help. But anxiety responds so well to treatment, that it is highly recommended that anyone that feels they have anxiety in NY consider getting the help they need.
