When a couple gets married, their goal is to be happy. But relationships are not static – they’re dynamic. They are always changing. Your past, your present, and your future will continue to have a powerful effect on how you perceive and grow in your relationship. At times, you may find that your relationship isn’t where you want it to be, and that’s when you benefit from marriage counseling in Suffolk County.
My Approach to Therapy
While my offices are both located in Nassau County (Garden City and Lawrence), I take a unique approach to marriage counseling that has appealed to many Suffolk County couples. Known as Complementary Dynamic Experiential Learning, or CDEL, my role is to treat both of you as your unique individuals.
It’s not uncommon for most marriage counselors to act only on the relationship. But a relationship is made up of two people – two people with their own:
The way any one person sees the world and the experiences they’ve had to get where they are today is different when compared to someone else. As a marriage counselor, I try to understand you as individuals within this relationship, and then bring it back to the relationship to determine how the two of you can move forward together.
This approach is designed to help you learn more about yourself as well – what experiences have shaped how you see the world, what you’ve were looking for in a mate, and much more. It also integrates some of the most well known therapies available, including cognitive behavioral therapy, positive psychology, and psychodynamic theory.
But perhaps most importantly, my marriage counseling in Suffolk County is there to give you a safe space to talk about your challenges and start working towards effective solutions.
