Dr. Marc Shulman - founder and director of Long Island Psychology

Founder/Director

Marc J. Shulman, Psy.D.

Clinical Psychologist

As an experienced clinical psychologist (therapist) on Long Island, I have had the opportunity to hone my skills over many years of training and working with people of varied ages and backgrounds. After graduating from Yeshiva University with my doctorate in psychology I spent 7 years as an Associate Research Scientist at Yale University and at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, where I was a Program Director in their Clinical Health Psychology department and conducted research on a wide range of psychological issues. Throughout this time I maintained an active private practice in Stamford, CT. Since relocating to Long Island I serve as a core faculty member in a nationally recognized program at the Northport VA Medical Center and opened private offices in Roslyn Heights and Garden City.

Additionally, I have supervised students from many of the top graduate programs, published in prestigious psychology journals, presented at professional conferences and developed treatment manuals that are used in clinical research at major educational institutions and hospitals. I helped launch businesses that provided greater access to therapeutic services to people in need across the nation and developed novel techniques to foster human creativity in group settings. I also spent several years developing a unique approach to therapy called Dynamic Experiential Learning (DEL), which is designed to help you overcome obstacles and achieve more satisfaction from life. Please read more about this on the Our Approach page.

More than anything else though, I truly love what I do! This allows me to connect with people from all walks of life and successfully help people live happier lives.

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in individual therapy or group therapy or marriage counseling / couples therapy at (516) 732-0273.

Jennifer Hersh Zurndorfer, LCSW-R

Clinical Social Worker

I have been providing clinical services for the last 15 years.  Throughout my professional experiences, I have worked with children, adults and couples; all from various backgrounds. I graduated with my Masters in Social Work from Fordham University in 2005. Since graduating, I have worked in various settings, which include school-based counseling and outpatient individual psychotherapy. For the last five years I have served as Clinical Director of New Horizon Counseling Center in Ozone Park. I supervise many therapists and oversee the treatment of our 500+ client base. During this time, I have also maintained a private practice in West Hempstead, New York.

I approach each session with an open-minded mentality.  Making the choice to begin counseling can sometimes feel challenging on many levels. My priority is ensuring that my clients feel understood and supported throughout their treatment.  Based on an individual’s needs and strengths, I utilize a variety of evidence-based treatment models that I feel will yield optimal progress. I have helped individuals overcome challenges related to depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma/PTSD, codependency, addictive behaviors, gender dysphoria, grief, family conflict as well as many other issues that stem from biological and environmental sources.

I feel grateful to work in a profession where I can assist individuals who are seeking to improve their overall wellbeing. The highlight of my job is helping others successfully identify and utilize their own strengths for self-improvement while incorporating effective coping strategies.

Within my role as a therapist, I also consider my work as that of guidance and advocacy. I am committed to improving the overall well-being of my clients, which can encompass a variety of personal objectives that stretches beyond academic success or enhanced relationships. My collaborative approach has already helped others with rediscovering their motivation and forming greater resilience. My outpatient psychotherapy training first started at Hofstra’s Diagnostic and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). I additionally completed clinical fieldwork at a mental health center on a college campus, which exposed me to a wider variety of psychopathology during my initial training.

Being able to flourish in tangible ways is always within reach. I look forward to speaking with you to learn more about how I can support your vision for yourself or loved one. In addition to my work with Long Island Psychology, I am a school psychologist on Long Island. During my free time, I enjoy hobbies such as chess, rooting for the Buffalo Bills, watching Star Wars shows and movies, billiards, bike riding, escape rooms, jigsaw puzzles, and practicing my Spanish.
