About Couples Counseling
Will Couples Counseling Save My Marriage?
It depends on your goal and who you are as a couple. Some people seek out couples counseling in order to understand if they’re with the right partner. Others need help mediating family changes during a divorce. If you’re there to save your marriage, then that’s what we will work towards as couples counselors. The ultimate decision to stay together or to be apart is based on your happiness and connection as a couple, and one of the goals of couples counseling is to improve trust and communication so that you can evaluate your compatibility.
I Heard the Gottman Method Was Effective. Is That What You Use?
Sometimes. But we believe that it is important to treat each marriage or partnership as its own separate entity, and that means looking into different interventions depending on where you are as a couple and what you would benefit from most.
My Partner Doesn’t Want to Come to Couples Counseling. What Do I Do?
Marriages are called partnerships for a reason, so we encourage you to keep trying. Both partners have to be ready for change if it is to be effective for your relationship. You and your partner can always try one session and then see how you feel. We also offer Individual Relationship counseling for those that would like to work on themselves in their relationships/marriage.
Do You Have to Be Married for Couples Counseling?
Not at all. We see engaged couples, domestic partnerships – we have even seen parents and kids, as well as two close friends.
We Are Mostly Happily Married But Have a Problem with Affection/Sex/Communication, etc.
Couples counseling is about making your relationship stronger, and thus it is not limited to those trying to save a marriage. Anyone that feels that their marriage or relationship has the potential to improve can consider couples counseling.
Do You Provide LGBT Couples Counseling?
Yes. We are happy to see those in any type of partnership that are looking to improve relationship or connection.
